LIBERIA FOR UN SECURITY COUNCIL

As an Alumni of the MUN-Liberia, formerly representative of Niger at such occasions as a non-permanent member of the UNSC in 2020, I wholeheartedly support Liberia's bid for a non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.

For as much as I know,

1. Liberia has a history of civil war and has committed itself to maintaining internal peace and security, something we have enjoyed since 2003. This experience as a nation has shifted our attention from conflict and promoting national, regional, and global peace.

Secondly, our nation has made efforts to maintain regional stability: we have played a significant role in promoting stability in the West African region. As a member of the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States), we have contributed to regional peacekeeping efforts and have been a key player in conflict resolution initiatives in the region, most recently in Mali.

3. We as a nation have experience as we have also contributed to UN Peacekeeping. Thereby, providing Liberia the opportunity to do more on the international stage, particularly in international peace.

Lastly, Liberia, as an emblem of the African continent, will continue to promote the voices of Africa at the discussion table. As an embodiment of this part of the world that is under-represented, we can shift the status quo of imbalance. help to address this imbalance.

We possess the knowledge and experience of peacebuilding. A seat at the table will allow us to share with others how we became resilient, even after 14 years of a devastating civil war.

To Liberians at home and abroad, support Liberia's bid for a non-permanent seat in the UNSC.
